Curriculum Rationale
Our school develops the Music curriculum with reference to the latest curriculum guidelines issued by the Education Bureau. Arts Education is an integral part of the five aspects of education — moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic development — and contributes to the balanced and individual development of every student. It also supports students in becoming lifelong learners who are able to learn independently, think, explore, innovate and adapt.
Arts Education also helps students establish a healthy lifestyle and develop an interest in, and appreciation of, physical and aesthetic activities. Our school therefore provides students with a balanced curriculum that supports whole-person development.
Curriculum Aims
Every student should have the opportunity to receive Arts Education, which plays an important role in whole-person development. Through the Music curriculum, our school aims to:
1. develop students’ creativity, openness, flexibility and aesthetic sensitivity, while fostering learning-to-learn skills and lifelong learning;
2. provide students with life-wide arts learning experiences beyond the classroom;
3. provide students with a balanced arts curriculum and diverse artistic experiences.
Development Directions
1. develop creativity, imagination, flexibility and aesthetic sensitivity, as well as the ability to appreciate and evaluate the world around them;
2. develop appropriate values and attitudes, while enhancing learning effectiveness in other Key Learning Areas;
3. inherit, promote and reflect on the traditions and values of local and other cultures.
How Arts Education Supports Students
1. develop creativity and critical thinking skills, cultivate aesthetic sensitivity, build cultural awareness and enhance effective communication skills;
2. develop skills in artistic creation, construct knowledge, and cultivate appropriate values and attitudes;
3. experience enjoyment, pleasure and satisfaction through participation in artistic activities;
4. develop a lifelong interest in the arts.
